Sources & Information:

Item 1.The first two children of Ebenezer and Hannah Ellis are reported as born in Sandwich and the others in Yarmouth, putting the family's arrival in Yarmouth at between 1761 and 1763, approximately the same time as Elijah and family.
Two, possibly three, of the 13 sons of Gideon Ellis (by two wives) went to Nova Scotia and ended up as sea traders. The 1977 article, quoting from "Yarmouth Genealogies, Vol. 23" tells that three families from Sandwich arrived at Chebogue, Nova Scotia in the little schooner "Pompey," 9 June 1761, landing on Crawley's Island. These were Elijah Ellis (b. 1727, s/o Gideon) and his neighbors, Sealed Landers and Moses Perry.
It was popular about that time for Tories (those who were loyal to Great Britain) to take off for Canada to avoid the un pleasantries of the Revolutionary War. Some stayed, other families returned to the colonies after the war.
