Ellis, Elisha, Ensign, Capt. Ward Swift's (2d Sandwich) co., Co. Joseph Otis's (1st Barnstable Co.) regt.; list of officers returned as sworn by officers appointed for that purpose dated Sept. 29, 1775; also, 2d Lieutenant. Capt. Ward Swift's 8th (2d Sandwich) co., 1st Barnstable Co. regt. of Mass. militia; list of officers elected by said company at Sandwich, March 19, 1776, as returned by Col. Nathaniel Freeman; reported commissioned March 27, 1776; also, petition to the Council dated Sandwich, Feb. 5, 1779, signed by said Ellis, stating that he had served as 2d Lieutenant in 8th co., Col. Nathaniel Freeman's (1st Barnstable Co.) regt.; that he had also procured a man to serve a turn in his behalf, and as he was no longer able to serve on account of ill health, asking that his resignation be accepted; ordered in Council March 4, 1779, that the resignation be accepted.

Item 2.Elisha Ellis, died testate shortly before 20Jul1779. As early as 29 Sep 1775 he was serving as an ensign in Capt. Ward Swift's 2nd Sandwich Co., 1st Barstable County Regiment. He later became a 2nd lieutenant in the 8th Company of the same regiment. He petitioned Council 5 Feb 1779 stating that he was no longer able to serve because of ill health. His resignation was approved 4 Mar 1779. His will was dated 12 Mar 1779 and proved 29 Nov 1779 by the executrix, Mary (Swift) Ellis.
