In a 3" x 4 1/2" x 3/4" thick sized New Testament Bible, by the American Bible Society, New York, printed in 1859, is inscribed the following on front and back pages:
Front of Book: "Sept. 4th 1864, I united with the Church at Newbury, VT." Emma Newell Gould would have been 15 yrs old at this time. Then it says "Birthday Gift from Cos. Emma. dated June 10, 62." Bottom of page shows "Nov 8th 1856, mother died." This would be Harriet Newell (Keyes) Goold.
Back of Book: "Sept. 4, 1864. I united with the Congregational Church in Newbury, VT. Nov. 8, 1856, mother died, she was 41. Oct. 10, 1865, father died, he was 53."
"In Brattleboro, Jan 30, 1872, by Rev. N. H. Harris, Mr. George A. Ellis, of Jersey City, NJ and Miss Emma N. Goold, of Brattleboro, VT. Rev. Harris closed his prayer at our wedding, with, may the sweet peace of Jesus, rest with you both forever."
"Born in Jersey City, March 27th 1874, Edith Adeline Ellis, Florence Harriett Ellis born July 22, 1875, Francis Allen Ellis, Sept 1, 1876."
