Item 1.Joseph Severance and Martha (Warden) Severance settled at Yarmouth and Harwich,
MA before 1700. [Torrey] Martha, born 1673, was the daughter of Peter Warden, Jr. of Yarmouth and Harwich, MA. [MAVR]
Item 2.Joseph Severance was with the first expedition under Capt. John Gorham's company sent
out of Yarmouth against Mount Hope in the King Phillips War on 1675. He was from that
part of Yarmouth which is now East Dennis, MA. [Paine p. 107-108].
Item 3.Joseph Severance bought land with Manoah Ellis and Elisha Eldridge in 1693.
By deed dated April 8, 1687, Mr. Lumbert sold half interest in his farm to Joseph Severance Jr. of Yarmouth and the remaining one-half interest was acquired by Manoah Ellis of Sandwich, MA. [Smith II p. 115-116].
Item 4.Apparently, Joseph Severance died before 1725. Martha died at her daughter's, Abigail (Severance) Broadbrooks, on 3-31-1725. [MAVR Harwich]
