About 1750 Elijah Ellis's father built him a one room house which was enlarged later and used as a tavern. He is listed in the 1790 census as the head of a Sandwich family of one male over 16 and two females. All of his children were born in Sandwich.
The insufficient dates of birth and death, for first wife Hannah Mason, does not help in determining if the three children listed are her children or of the second marriage to a Margaret _____?_____ (last name not given).
ECN Summer 1998, pg. 45 is the following: "Two, possibly three, of the 13 sons of Gideon Ellis (by two wives) went to Nova Scotia and ended up as sea traders. Gideon 3 Ellis b & d in Sandwich, MA 1700-1760, was s/o Freeman 2, s/o Lt. John 1."
