William Ellis was born about 1694, baptized 30 May 1697 and died in Plymouth intestate shortly before 18 May 1768. (Ancestors and Descendeants of Zeba Ellis of Ellisville, MA., say date of death for William 3 Ellis, as before 16 May 1768) He married Joanna Gibbs of Plymouth, daughter of Lt. John and Esther (Swift) Gibbs, 19 Mar 1718. She was born 13 Mar 1697 and died after 2 April 1762. In a series of deeds beginning in 1728 he is called laborer, yeoman, then innholder. She was his only wife although in various records she is called Joanna, Joanne and Jane.
