Theophilus Cotton's regt.; muster roll dated Aug. 1, 1775; enlisted May 2, 1775; service, 3 mos. 7 days; also, company return dated Oct. 7, 1775; also, order for bounty coat or its equivalent in money dated Roxbury, Nov. 9, 1775. A Revolutionary War “Minuteman,” removed to Hartford, ME in 1792.
John P. Ellis statement in e-mail of Dec. 16, 1998, to Edward D. Ellis, as follows: “Much of this family history was published by Caleb Holt Ellis in 1900 in a book called “The Bradfords, Fullers and Ellises.” That book was very helpful, but it contains errors. I am in the process of going back to original sources.” EDE.
He is listed in the 1790 census as the head of a Plympton family of two males over 16, one under 16 and five females. Children are from the Vital Records of Plympton.
Freeman is buried at Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery in Hartford., Maine. Was a founding Selectman of the town of Hartford in 1798 and also served as Town Clerk.
