Joseph and Susannah Ellis lived in that part of Plympton that was incorporated 9Jun1790 as the town of Carver. He is thought to be that Joseph Ellis of Middleboro who served as a corporal in Capt. Nathaniel Ward's 1st Middleboro Company of Minute-Men, which marched on the alarm of 19 Apr 1775, to Marshfield; service 2 days. He is listed in the 1790 cenus as the head of a Carver family of one male over 16, three under 16 and five females. Before his death it seems that most of his property passed into the hands of his eldest son, the Hon. Benjamin Ellis.
