Military Record Information: Gamaliel 5 Ellis enlisted in the spring of 1775 in Capt. Josiah King's company. Col. David Brewster's regiment for eight months with his brother Ebenezer 5 Ellis. In 1776 he served in Capt. Oliver Soper's company, Col. Joseph Reed's regiment. In his pension he stated that his wife was a cripple and he had a lameness in his right arm that made farm work difficult. His farm was 50 acres of rough mountain land in Vermont. His creditor was his son, Silvanus. The list of his children is incomplete, although it is reported that there are three known children, which were born in Vermont. There may have been other children.
