Daniel 5 Ellis like his brothers served in the Revolutionary War from Middleboro. He was a private in Capt. John Barrow's company, Col. Abijah Stern's regiment, April - July 1778 and a sergeant in Capt. Henry Pierce's company, Col. Theophilus Cotton's regiment, Mar 1781. In the 1790 census he is listed next to his widowed mother, Lucia (Bennett) Ellis, as the head of a Middleboro family of one male over 16, and three females. No birth, baptism or land records found which refer to him. He may have followed his older brother, Gamaliel, to Vermont or he may have gone elsewhere.
