Item 1.In a deposition dated 1 September 1835 he related that he enlisted in the American service under Col. Thomas Marshall and Lt. Col. Gamaliel Bradford, under Capt. Thomas Turner from Pembroke and Lt. Joshua Eddy of Middleborough; that he marched from Middleborough to Nantasket or Hull, then to Castle William, where he remained in the company of Capt. Soper repairing works. In the spring of 1777 he enlised again, serving in Roxbury with the rank of corporal. His third enlistment in 1778-79, he served at Bunker or Breed's Hill with the rank of sergeant. He served two other army enlistments, at the Battle of Rhode Island, about 28 August 1778, under General Sullivan. Finally he served in 1779 on board the ship "Massachusetts" as Sergeant of the Guns, ending his service at the Island of Martinique. In 1787 he moved from Middleborough to Woodstock, Vt. He is listed in the 1790 census as the head of a Woodstock family of one male over 16, one under 16 and one female. In 1806 he removed to Argenteuile.
