Misc. Notes
ECN, Fall 1996, pg 74. See below:
Hannah Elizabeth Mack, b. 1771, dau. of Elisha Mack and Diadama Rathburne. There were several Ellis and Mack connections in the Sandwich MA family line. On pages 134-137 of the book by Col. Harry Ellis, Dec'd, he wrote in some detail on the ancestry of the Mack family. ECN member Bob Raup seeks to correct a couple of errors in regard to Hannah's family connections.
First, Diadama Rathburne who married Elisha Mack was dau. of Daniel (rather than David) and Thankful Rathurne. That surname is spelled several ways: Rathbun, Rathbone and Rathburne, but the most accepted form in the records for Daniel appears to be Rathbone.
Second, Bob mentions "The Mack Genealogy" by Sophia Smith Martin 1903, and says he believes the place of death of Elisha Mack as Washington, D.C. is in error, since the date of 1830 is also wrong. His death date, as recorded in other sources including the book by Col. Harry H. Ellis, Deceased, as 1820 is probably correct.
Hannah (Mack) Ellis is an eighth generation descendant from two Mayflower passengers, both through her maternal side. Bob refers to the Mayflower Families, Vol. Two, by the General Society of Mayflower Descendants 1978. Also Mayflower Families, Vol. Six, Family of Stephen Hopkins by John D. Austin, published by the General Society of Mayflower Descendants 1992.
This, then, makes the children and succeeding generations of Andrew Ellis and Hannah Mack also descendants of the Mayflower. Bob is hoping to record his ancestry with the Society of Mayflower Descendants. He would be happy to discuss this with anyone and is especially interested in finding out if anyone in this family line has already done this.
