Misc. Notes
There is in the Ellsworth family so much confusion in dates and places for individual vital statistical records. This family unit is no exception. In the case of Robert "Bob" Emanuel Ellsworth there has been other dates of birth offered by members of the family such as 17 May 1864, in Moore, Ontario, Canada [Could this be Mooretown, across the St Clair River in Ontario, Canada, just north of St Clair, Michigan]. Since the Ellsworth family migration has been through Canada it is possible that they may have moved back and forth across the river in the mid 1850's. A check of Western Ontario records, especially along the western edge, would be appropriate. You might end up in a wild goose chase!
The story given is that Robert Emanuel Ellsworth was 14 when his family went to Minnesota and then to Washington State. His parents thought he was on the train when they left for Minnesota. He, however, got off because he did not want to go and stayed behind with his sister Emily Ellsworth Oliver. The record shows his parents leaving for Minnesota about 1874 or 1875, but he would not have been 14 until 1878 and his sister would have been about 16. She would have been hardly old enough to care for him. We do know the family was definitely in Minnesota by 1887.
Robert Ellsworth became City Treasurer of Alpena, Michigan. He later became Michigan State Game Warden in the Conservation Department, Lansing, Michigan.
State of Michigan, Death Certificate, File No. 10912606, for Robert "Bob" Emanuel Ellsworth. The information being his son James Benjamin Ellsworth.
In The History of the Hubbard Lake Methodist Church, by Mrs Byron Coleman, on page 169 is the name of Robert Ellsworth under memberships as of May 6, 1917. This should be Robert Henry Ellsworth, a nephew of Robert Emanuel Ellsworth. Although Robert Henry Ellsworth died on 2 January 1904 his wife Jane Ann (Bickel) Ellsworth was still living until 1920 in Hubbard Lake area, thus the name on the church records still as Robert Ellsworth.
