Samuel Nathaniel Ellsworth was 2 or 3 years old when his family moved to Becker Co., Cormorant, Minnesota. The family then moving on to Willapa, Pacific County, Washington in 1877. He went back to Minnesota as a young man where he married Eunice Nunn Bradshaw. They later lived for many years in Cathcart, near Clearview, Snohomish Co., Washington.
Donna [Ellsworth] Ward remembers many a Sunday being spent visiting their home in Cathcart. It was a very old two bedroom home with no indoor plumbing. You really ran for the [outhouse] when you had to use the outside plumbing in the winter. She further explains how she loved to use the water pump with many a pleasant hour spent just pumping away. The old wooden oak round table in the middle of the kitchen was always piled high with butter and other condiments in the center. The garden that grandpa kept with corn stalks that seemed to reach all the way to the sky from a small child's vantage point.
Donna Ellsworth Ward was only 5 years old when her grandma Eunice Bradshaw Ellsworth died. Donna's memories are few and dim, but she does remember being called back for cookies, the large apron she always wore, and her snow white hair.
Samuel Nathaniel Ellsworth and wife Eunice Bradshaw Ellsworth also raised a son by a previous marriage of Eunice: Alfred "Allie" Bradshaw, born 3 November 1892 in Pelican Lake, Minnesota. He disappeared in his early teens while traveling from Minnesota to Washington. No trace of him was ever found even though private detectives were hired and police investigated. No evidence ever turned up as to what happened to him.
They were further appointed guardians and raised Eunice Nunn's nephews, children of her half-brother, William McLeod: Philip Marshal McLeod, born 22 January 1921 in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. Kenneth Daniel McLeod, born 1 April 1922 in Cormorant, Minnesota. Dates on this guardianship were as follows: Appointed temporary guardian - 12 May 1924, permanent guardian - 7 August 1927. Discharged 25 September 1933 from Minnesota. Final payment of adjusted compensation, 1 April 1938, Final payment, 1 July 1930.
On the marriage certificate of Eunice Bradshaw, her name is listed as Eunice P. Bradshaw, though her relatives state she had no middle name.
