Quote from e-mail of May 14, 2000 and Nancy Estelle Colby Hylla Hawkins.
"My brother Larry Ray Colby BROWN was adopted by our mother's sister, Marjorie Hawkins Brown, my brother Ralph Merlin Colby Hylla Hawkins was adopted by my mother's brother Merlin Orville Hawkins. My mother's brother Dale Emerson Hawkins was a guardian for my brother Steven Lee Colby Hylla. He drowned before his adoption went through, it happened five days short of a year after our mom died. My mother's sister Mauleen Hawkins Thornton was a guardian to my brother Timmy LeeRoy Colby Hylla. He was never adopted as the step-dad owed them money and never payed them, so they were able to get support money from the military for him as long as they did not adopt him. Tim is still bitter about that today! He thought he was Tim Thornton and went by that name until he entered high school and had to provide a B/C. The school made him go by the last name of Hylla which is still his surname today. My aunt and uncle got mad at him when he was 16 years old and put him on a bus and sent him to live with Robert HYLLA, a man he had no memories of and did not know. When he was 17, almost 18, Robert (Bob to us) made him join the Marines's. He said they made a man out of him so he now is proud to bear the surname of HYLLA."
