Item 1.Andrew Ellis was born in Massachusetts, probably in Harwich, in 1774 and died
in Colchester, Vermont 31Jan1854.Andrew late in life married 2nd Elizabeth
(Owen) Hill, widow of Benjamin Hill in Colchester. The family moved to Vermont
between 1795 and 1796. The 1800 census lists Andrew as the head of a Fairfax,
Vermont family of four sons and one daughter living in Fairfax, Township, Franklin
County, Vermont, not far from his father Joseph, then living in Fletcher, Vermont.
In 1805 Andrew Ellis and Elijah Wolcott owned and operated one of the saw mills
on Colchester Lake. From 1807 to 1808 Andrew was a select man in Colchester.
Hannah Ellis, his wife, died 8 Oct 1826 at the age of 55; Hannah Ellis, his daughter,
died in Aug 1806 at the age of 2; Freeman, his son, died in Aug 1806 at the age of
six months. All are buried in the Munson Cemetery in Colchester, Vermont.
William, Lyman and Apollis, sons of Andrew, served in the Colchester Militia under
the command of Lt. Moses Bates in the War of 1812. On 19 Nov 1851, Andrew Ellis,
Jr. of Essex, Chittended County, Vermont, son of Andrew, stated that, in his opinion
and in the opinion of friends and relatives, Andrew Ellis was Insane and requested
that he be appointed Guardian. On 3 Dec 1851 Harrison Griffin of Essex was
appointed guardian. Andrew died 31 Jan 1854 at the age of 80.

Item 6.Looking at a 2004 map of Vermont some problems as to location becomes of con-
cern, in as much as, Colchester, Essex, Vermont is has been used. There is no
Essex county in Vermont, but there is a Essex Center abt. 7 miles from Colchester.
