THE NY MOSES ELLIS, SON OF LEVI ELLIS, By Jean Ellis Grace, P.O. Box 187, Lodi, NY 14860, re: ECN Spring 1992, pg 25.

Moses Ellis came to Lodi, Seneca Co. (then Ovie, Cayuga Co.) NY with his parents when he was about eight years old.

During the War of 1812, sometimes called the Second War with Great Britain, Moses enlised in a Company of Riflemen formed at Ovid, NY. He was mustered into service but served less than one month because his father, Levi, hired a substitute to serve in his place, which was common practice early in this country.

Moses married Mary "Polly" Travis, daughter of Rev. War soldier Sylvenua Travis and wife Rhoda Bennett Ganoung. Moses and Polly had ten children: Hannah, Charlotte, Thomas Bennett, Jeremiah, Elial, Nicoll, Levi, Sylvenus, Ann and Sophia "Lizzie."
