Levi Ellis, son of Christoher Ellis and Priscilla Chase of Yarmouth, Barnstable Co, (Cape Cod) Massachusetts. Born 6 Mar 1739 at Yarmouth. This raises the Loyalist question upon relocating to Vernon, Sussex Co., New York, 1770-98, then to Ovid, Seneca Co., N.Y. He was however listed on Hardyston, Sussex Co., New Jersey Sept. 1774 tax list.
Was possibly a Baptist while living near or in Warwich, Orange Co., N.Y. 1775. Operated a grist mill, farm and blacksmith business. He was possibly a widower after 1775. He died 1815.
His first marriage abt 1760 to Elizabeth (Unknown last name) and resulting in children Elizabeth b. c. 1760, William b. 1762, Levi Jr. b. 1764, Lazarus B. 1766, Abner, Amos, Archibald, Barbara, Nancy, Simeon b. c. 1775.
His second marriage to Elizabeth Hillman and resulted in children Anna b. 1785-90, d. 1817, Will and probate record of 3 July 1815, Ovid, Seneca Co., N.Y., Moses B. 1792, Charlotte B. 1795-1800, d. 1817 N.Y.
Levi Ellis was listed in Fourth Battalion of New Jersy, Volunteers 25 March 1777.
Property was sold off on 9 April 1777 and again on 18 July 1777.
There being an Inquisition against him and others in Sussex Co., New Jersey 10 march 1779, published in NJ Gazette at Trenton, NJ. (Record did not show him fleeing to Candada or other loyalists resettlement areas).
