According to the record of birth on file with the State of New Hampshire, Samuel Stiles, date of birth is given as March 17, 1788. If this were correct then he would have been age 65 yrs 3 months 25 days old at time of death on July 4, 1853. The stone marker on his grave located in the Dummerston Center Cemetery, Dummerston, Vermont, indicates age as 69 years. If this is correct then his date of birth would be in 1784. Am inclined to accept the date of death on the stone marker of July 12, 1853. This would still place him 5 years younger than his wife Polly W. Washburn. [SEE NOTE BELOW, IN 1850 CENSUS, REGARDING THIS DATE].

1830 United States Federal Census, Rindge, Cheshire, New Hampshire, shows Samuel Stiles with wife and 6 children of which 3 are boys and 3 are girls. These would be Polly W. Washburn wife, and Eveline W., Orvile Colburn Stiles, John Austin Stiles, Mary Ward Stiles, Lyman Washburn Stiles, and Julia Ann Stiles. All listed under Free White Persons.

1850 United States Federal Census, Rindge, Cheshire, New Hampshire, shows Samuel Stiles, Farmer, age 65, born abt 1785 in MA, with wife Polly W. [Washburn] Stiles, age 70, born abt 1780 in MA, There is also a listing for a Everline Fenno, age 36, born abt 1814 in Conn. This has a relationship through Polly W. Washburn to be established.

Samuel Stiles was a farmer and wheelwright of Rindge, New Hampshire. He and wife Polly later moved in 1854 to Dummerston, VT.
