Item 1.William Ellis was a blacksmith by trade. Deeds always describe him as
William Ellis, Jr. of Rochester. Not to be confused with his slightly older
relative and fellow townsman, William Ellis who was a carpenter. He was
only six years old when his father and three paternal uncles died. He was
still a minor in 1738 when his mother married Josiah Jenkins. The will of
his mother, Mary (White) (Ellis) Jenkins, dated 21 Nov 1755 and proved 18
Feb 1763, gives only her Bible to this only son, so he probably came into
his full share of his father's real and personal property before thi
