Commonwealth. Ellis, Joel, Rochester. Private, Capt. Nathaniel Hammond's (2d Rochester) co., which marched April 20, 1775, in response to the alarm of April 19, 1975, to Marshvield; service 4 days; also, 2d co. commanded by Lieut. John Doty, col. Ebenezer Sprout's regt.; enlisted May 6, 1778; dischargved May 7, 1778; service, 2 days, on an alarm at Dartmouth; also, same co. and regt.; enlised Sept. 5, 1778; discharged Sept. 11, 1778; service, 6 days, on an alarm at Dartmouth.
The Birth and Baptism records of his children do not appear in the Vital Records of Rochester so their names are known only by their father's will. Joel and 2nd wife Tabitha White are reported as having lived in Wareham.
In trying to identify children according to Joel Ellis's 1st. marrage to Ruth Green on 27 January 1774. His 2nd. marrage to Tabitha White on 27 March 1786, must conclude that all children born
subsequently to date of second marriage belong to Tabitha White. The first listings of Paul and
Tabida do not give dates and are prior Patience, birth about 1788, thus am assigning these two
to 1st wife Ruth Green. Perhaps time and records will be more precise in my dicision.
