Item 2.William Ellis is usually described in deeds as carpenter or housewright and
always as "of Rochester" He is not to be confused with his slightly younger
cousin, William 4 Ellis who is always described as "Junior" because he also
lived in Rochester, nor with another cousin, William 4 Ellis who lived at Monomet
Ponds, called "yeoman of Plymouth," who also had a wife named Patience. Our
immediate subject William 4 Ellis died testate in Rochester, MA 1778 and will
was dated 13 July 1778 and proved 2 September 1778.
