Stephen Ellis was given a major share of his father's real estate in Rochester, Massachusetts by the latter's will dated 1778. He removed to some other state after the disposal of his Rochester property as his name does not appear in the 1790 census of Mass. He may have been one of the Stephen Ellises in Vermont. Believed to have had a son named Stephen.
