Johathan Scott Ellis was only seven years old when his father was lost off Nantucket Shoals. His mother took the family back to her father's home at Minot, Maine. In 1836 Johathan bought a farm at Farmington, Maine and lived there the remainder of his life. He died there 30 March 1895, aged 101 years, 8 months. His death was hastened by an accident, he fell while shaving himself.
