Court Activities: John Ellis date of birth in 1680, on IGI Massachusetts, page 12060, May 25, 1705 John Ellis and three others complained to the General Court that although they paid their taxes in Harwich they were being punished by the sub-district called Monomy for not paying taxes there; which petition was received and the General Court ordered that they should continue to pay taxes to Harwich until a learned Orthodox minister should settle at Monomy, when the Court "may give further orders." lived in that part of Harwich called Monomy, where he died. before January 7, 1712-13, upon which date his widow Martha was appointed administratrix of his estate; his birth dates of children were not found but June 23, 1717 his widow presented their children--then living--for baptism in the church and they were on that date baptized:

History of Chatham, Massachusetts, by W. C. Smith, page 162. "John Ellis, a recent settler, son of Manoah Ellis of Harwich, died on October 19, leaving a family." Also noted is: "John Ellis of Harwich married Martha Severance, daughter of Joseph, June 21, 1706, (East.REc.) She was appointed administratrix of his estate Janu. 7, 1712-3. On June 23, 1717, Widow Ellis, Benjamin, Joseph, John and Thankful were baptized. (Har. Ch. Rec.) These four are believed to be his children."
